Embark on the trip of a lifetime with Women Who Explore and Ecuador Kayak. This trip caters to the adventurous soul, seeking more out of life than the ordinary. Through river and ground exploration we will be introduced to the raw nature of Ecuador. Our trip will be based out of the Ecuador Kayak Lodge and from there we will kayak, raft, hike and explore the surrounding area, while remembering to take time to relax and care for ourselves while immersed in the beauty of this country.
Please note all river itineraries are subject to water levels, however Ecuador Kayak’s experienced staff can adapt with levels to ensure a day on the river will take place.
Itinerary Feb 17-22nd, 2019
Day 1: February 17th
To the Quijos Valley!
We will be picked up at 9:00 am at the airport hotel by our friendly Ecuador Kayak Representative. From there we will head to the Quijos Valley. Enjoy the stunning views as we climb the Papallacta Pass at almost 4000 meters. On the way down the mountain we will follow the headwaters of the Quijos River where our on water adventure begins. After a tour of the grounds and some delicious food we will be outfitted in our whitewater equipment for the week. Enjoy the Yoga Shala overlooking the river with the sounds and sights of tropical birds and vibrant flowers. We then will travel to nearby freshwater ponds to work on introduction kayak skills, rolling, bracing, and having fun splashing in the clean water with a mountainous backdrop. After a hearty meal we can finish the evening with a hot tub or a stroll of the gardens.

Day 2: February 18th
Quijos River Rafting. Class 3+, 4-
Wake up the the hummingbirds, roar of the river, and tranquility of the grounds. Our put in for our rafting adventure is steps from our rooms. We will raft the Borja and/or El Chaco section of the Quijos river. Experience big volume pool drop style rapids with friendly wave trains and gorgeous black volcanic rock canyons and a wall of lush greenery. Float through the flat water canyons and view bridal veil style waterfalls coming into the river. We’ll finish the evening back on the grounds.

Day 3: February 19th
Kayaking / Inflatable Kayaking / Rafting.
Awake and enjoy our new morning routine of bird watching, exploring, or relaxing in a hammock. After breakfast, we will embark on the same river put in to paddle the Quijos river in various crafts, whitewater kayaks, single or double inflatable kayaks or a seat on a raft - your choice. Explore new lines in the raft or work on your skills in a kayak.
The experience will be catered to our skill level and stoke! That evening we’ll head back to Paddler’s Paradise for relaxing, games, dancing, or stretching - wherever the night takes us.

Day 4: February 20th
Hiking, Yoga, Massage
Today we’ll take a break off the water to explore the surrounding area and indulge in some much deserved self-care. After a morning yoga session overlooking the Quijos River, we will hike to a pristine waterfall and tap into the abundant energy of the falls. Be ready to feel the mist of the falls on your face and enjoy the scenery of the canyon.
Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing on the grounds, enjoying the hot tub, or partake in the optional massage. This professional massage therapist offers a 1 hr 15 minute Swedish Style Massage in the privacy of your room for only $45 US. Included are essential oils and aromas for total body pampering.

Day 5: February 21st
Rafting the Lower Quijos
Today, we embark on a trip to the lower section of the Quijos river. As a result of the added tributaries the volume of the Quijos river increases bringing even bigger waves and more remote greenery. The rapids are long pool drop with lots of places to pull over and just enjoy the moment. More volcanic flat water canyons allow us to take it all in while floating past rock walls that amaze even seasoned geologists. We’ll take a tour to a 40 meter waterfall called Magic Waterfall, near the take out of the rafting trip.

Day 6: February 22nd
After enjoying breakfast amongst the flora and fauna of the lodge we’ll say goodbye to our new hummingbird friends and take one last long smell of the flowers … at least until we return again! From here we’ll travel back to Quito where you will either head home or continue onto the next part of your adventure - your choice.
We ask that when you book this adventure, you plan to arrive at the Marisical Sucre Airport outside of Quito, Ecuador on February 16th and overnight in a hotel/hostel so you can assure you are ready for the 9 am departure on February 17. It is suggested to stay in Tababela, the town closest to the airport. We plan on all staying at the same hotel and getting to know one another! El Parque is a great option that can arrange airport pick up.
We will be arriving back at the airport the afternoon of February 22nd. You are welcome to book a late night departure or we spend the night and depart on February 23rd. You may also choose to further explore Ecuador - there is so much to see and so many places to play in this country. Please plan to fly in and out of Marisical Sucre Airport.
