Why Travel Insurance Matters

Travel insurance is one of the most important things you can bring on your trip. Read our blog post to learn why it’s essential for protecting your adventure.

While you’re free to choose any provider that meets our requirements, we highly recommend exploring our trusted travel insurance partners below.

Want to dig deeper into why emergency medical evacuation coverage is so important? This Forbes article breaks it down.

Our Travel Insurance Requirements

To join any Women Who Explore trip, all participants must provide proof of travel insurance that includes the following minimum coverage:

  • Emergency evacuation and repatriation: at least $100,000 USD

  • Medical coverage: at least $50,000 USD

You are welcome to purchase travel insurance from the provider of your choice. If a specific trip operator requires different minimums, you will be notified at least 60 days prior to departure.

Please note: Some Getaways may require additional coverage depending on the location or activities involved (such as scuba diving, high-altitude trekking, etc.).

While we’re happy to recommend providers, it is each guest’s responsibility to ensure their coverage meets our requirements. You can find more details in our Terms of Service.

We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance within 15 days of booking your trip. Many insurance companies require early purchase to activate full coverage benefits, including trip cancellation protection. Waiting too long could result in reduced coverage or denied claims if you need to cancel or change your trip unexpectedly.

Emergency rescue and evacuation services that go beyond traditional travel insurance.

A Global Rescue membership is not travel insurance—and it’s important to know the difference.

While travel insurance provides financial reimbursement for things like trip interruptions and medical expenses, a Global Rescue membership offers critical, boots-on-the-ground support when you need it most.

Here’s what Global Rescue provides:

  • Emergency field rescue from the point of illness or injury

  • Medical evacuation and transport to your hospital of choice

  • 24/7 medical and security advisory services

  • No out-of-pocket costs for these services once you’re a member

Together with travel insurance, a Global Rescue membership gives you the ultimate safety net: both the financial protection and the real-time emergency response that can make all the difference when things go wrong far from home.
