This adventure is rated 2 out of 5 difficulty level. Moderate level activities (i.e. short to medium hikes up to 5 miles, some elevation, intro to new skill/activity that is guided by 3rd party like mountain biking, climbing, rafting, etc.). Activities are included, but optional if outside of your comfort zone.

Witness breathtaking wildlife in Queen Elizabeth National Park, trek through lush forests to encounter wild chimpanzees and the awe-inspiring mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Beyond the safari, connect deeply with local culture through meaningful experiences with Ride 4 a Woman, a community initiative empowering Ugandan women. ITINERARY

    • Arrive in Entebbe International airport where you will be met by your female guide who will assist you with your transfer to the Bed and Breakfast for the evening.

    • Check into the hotel begins at 2 p.m. Enjoy some free time to rest and settle in.

    • Meet with your fellow travelers to enjoy a welcome dinner.

    • Meals: Dinner

    • After breakfast begin the 5-6 hour drive to Murchison Falls National Park. There will be a few stops along the way.

    • Visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary where you will enjoy a 1-2 hour walk to track rhinos. This is the only place in the country you can see rhinos.

    • We will enjoy lunch before making our way to our next stop.

    • Before we arrive at your safari lodge, we will make a stop at the Top of the Falls for an incredible view over the 147 foot waterfall to experience the power of the Nile River.

    • Tonight’s safari lodge is located within the stunning confines of the Murchison Falls National Park, overlooking the majestic Albert Nile River.

    • Spend the rest of your evening relaxing. Dinner is included at the lodge, you can enjoy it at your leisure this evening.

    • Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

    • With coffee and your packed breakfast, head out early into the morning for a game drive. In the park, some of the common animals that are frequently spotted include lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and more.

    • Enjoy lunch and some down time to relax by the pool before your evening activity.

    • Take an afternoon 3-hour boat safari on the Victoria Nile. Keep your eyes open for hippos, crocodiles, water bucks and bird species like Kingfishers, Cormorants, hornbills and more.

    • Return to the safari lodge and enjoy dinner at your leisure this evening.

    • Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

    • After breakfast, pack up and check out. Next stop is Kibble Forest National Park.

    • The drive today is approximately 5 hours. Along the way experience Uganda’s diverse landscapes, pass through local villages, and even spot wild life.

    • Arrive at the forest lodge and get settled in for the evening.

    • Relax at the lodge or enjoy a community walk around Bigodi to interact with locals - enjoy beer, coffee and dancing.

    • Return to your lodge and enjoy dinner at your leisure this evening.

    • Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

    • Enjoy breakfast at the lodge and the sounds of the forest as it wakes up with you.

    • BUCKETLIST ALERT - Chimpanzee Trekking!! Take a guided nature walk where you may encounter up to 13 different species of chimpanzees that call the Kibble Forest home. Some of the species living here include the red Colubus monkey, rare L’Hoest, monkey, blue monkey, grey-cheeked manga bey, baboons, pottos, bushbabies, and more. Duration of the walk is 2-5 hours and you will be accompanied by forest Rangers.

      • A rare species of elephants also reside in the Kibale National Forest known as the forest elephant. It is an elusive species, smaller, and harier than its Savanah counterpart. Other animals to encounter include over 335 species of birds, giant forest hogs, buffalo and many species of antelope.

    • After a busy morning, we return to our lodge to enjoy lunch before we make the `2 hour drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

    • En route, we will stop to visit the Equator in Kasese before arriving at our safari lodge set in the surroundings of the Bunyaruguru great crater field.

    • Enjoy the rest of the day to settle in, relax by the pool and enjoy the views.

    • Dinner is at the lodge at your leisure this evening.

    • Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

    • Today enjoy an early morning coffee or tea and grab your packed breakfast before heading out on a game drive.

    • Explore Queen Elizabeth National Park, well known lions that prey on the large population of antelope. Keep your eyes peeled for the elusive leopard and giant forest hog which are rare to this area.

    • Enjoy lunch back at the lodge and some time to relax by the pool.

    • A water safari on the Kazinga Channel is the afternoon adventure. This is a place where the two lakes Edward and George connect. Here you will learn about the 100 bird species that call this place home including the African Skimmers, Spoonbill, and a number of Bee-eater species. Hippos, crocodiles and elephants can also be seen.

    • Dinner will be available back at the lodge at your leisure this evening.

    • Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

    • Enjoy breakfast before packing up and checking out. Today we are off to our next destination - Biwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.

    • The drive is approximately 6 hours. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the richest biological and botanical regions in the world. It is home to around 400 wild Mountain Goriilas, half of the world’s population of these gentle giants.

    • Once we arrive in the village of Buhoma, we will get settled into our lodge. The afternoon is yours to relax or visit the handicraft shops and get to know locals.

    • Tonight you can enjoy dinner at the lodge at your leisure.

    • Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

    • Fill up on an early breakfast before another incredible adventure today.

    • BUCKETLIST DAY!!! Gorilla Tracking is today’s activity. After a short briefing by an Ugandan Wildlife Ranger, it’s time to head out for a trek to encounter Gorillas. The trek can take anywhere from 3 to 6 hours and a reasonable amount of fitness is required. The ranger will guide the group into the jungle-like forest where at times they may need to cut the thick bush with machetes as you search to locate the Gorillas. Once the Gorillas are located, all belongings will be left to one side so you can approach them with your camera only. To reduce transmission of disease from human contact, a minimum distance of 7 meters (23 fees) is advised at all times. Each group is allotted one hour to spend observing the Gorillas before returning back to base camp. Guest to guide ratio is 8:1. This experience may include others outside of the group.

    • Enjoy lunch back at camp once the Gorilla tour is finished.

    • In the afternoon enjoy a walk through the local community were you will experience the local way of life. Visit traditional homesteads, interact with locals and learn about their crafts and cultural traditions.

    • Dinner is at your leisure at the lodge tonight.

    • Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

    • Enjoy breakfast, pack up and check out. Today we make our way to Lake Mburo National Park. The drive takes around 5 hours.

    • Arrive in time to enjoy lunch at the lodge.

    • In the afternoon we will embrace on a scenic boat cruise on Lake Mburo, one of Uganda’s beautiful and wildlife rich lakes. Keep an eye out for pied kingfisher, the African Fish eagle, Nile crocodiles, lazy hippos and more.

    • Return to the lodge to enjoy dinner at your leisure.

    • Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

    • Enjoy breakfast, pack up and check out.

    • Before we hop in the car and make the return trip to Entebbe, we will have one final game drive. Alternatively you can opt for a guided safari walk. Lake Mburo is one of the few parks where you can walk and see most of the animals you would on a game drive. It is also famously known for having the largest numbers of zebras in Uganda.

    • After the safari, we hit the road to Entebbe to catch an evening flight home. The drive is approximately 5-6 hours with stops along the way. If you plan to fly out, your flight should be for after 6 pm in the evening.

    • Enjoy lunch at the Equator before arriving at the airport.

    • Alternatively, an additional night in Entebbe and airport transfer the following day can be arranged on request.

  • All meals will be provided as noted in the itinerary. Please reach out to the trip host after booking if you have any severe food allergies/sensitivities. We always do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions but cannot make any guarantees.

  • This trip requires a minimum number of women to register in order for it to be confirmed. Once the trip reaches the minimum participant number, you will receive a trip confirmation email and a link to be added a private Facebook group just for trip guests. In this group further trip details will be provided along with pre-travel support. Please let us know if you do not have or use Facebook (see contact information below).

    All deposits are non-refundable at the time of booking, but may be transferable if done so within the timeframe outlined in the Terms of Service.

    Once a trip has been confirmed (no matter the booking or trip timeline), the deposit is both non-refundable and non-transferable. Please make sure you are purchasing adequate travel insurance at the time of booking to ensure you are covered in case you need to cancel.

    Please note: some of our trips have a non-refundable fee that will be stated in the trip description. Please make sure to refer to the full Terms of Service to make sure you understand fully the Cancellation Policy of each trip.

    Please note that once the Uganda trip is confirmed, the non refundable deposit will increase to $1,050 above the initial deposit to cover the cost of the gorilla and chimpanzee permits.

  • Travel (and medical) insurance is required for anyone traveling on a Women Who Explore adventure. Your insurance should include adequate protection for overseas medical treatment, evacuation/repatriation, your baggage and equipment and the specific activities involved on your adventure. Your insurance policy should also include specific Covid-19 cover, including cancellation and curtailment cover if you or a close relative are diagnosed with Covid-19.

  • Please note that the itinerary provided for your adventure is subject to change. While we strive to adhere to the proposed plan, unforeseen circumstances such as weather conditions, safety concerns, or other factors beyond our control may necessitate adjustments to the itinerary. We prioritize your safety and enjoyment throughout the adventure, and any modifications made will be done with careful consideration. We will make every effort to inform you in advance of any changes and provide suitable alternatives to ensure a fulfilling experience.

  • Please note that the both the gorilla and chimpanzee trekking experiences are highly regulated to protect the gorillas, chimps, and visitors. Each trekking group is limited to a maximum of 8 people and may include other travelers outside of your tour group, meaning the experience is not private. Once your group locates the gorillas, you will have a maximum of one hour to observe them in their natural habitat. Gorilla trekking permits are non-refundable and non-transferable once your trip is confirmed, as they are issued by the Ugandan Wildlife Authority and are strictly limited.
